Scarabelli's Research Activities in the area of Imola

In several locations not far from the Reserve, in the area of Mt. Castellaccio, the paleontological research activities carried out during the last century by Giuseppe Scarabelli from Imola led to the discovery of important fossil bone finds in the yellow sands (of elephant, red deer, rhino, hippo, etc.). These finds are evidences of the local Pleistocene wildlife and give the opportunity to trace the climatic features of the period.
