Apricot and fresh fruit
Apricots, cultivated above all in Santerno Valley, are widespread in the whole Park territory where, thanks to the warm microclimate offered by Vena del Gesso, particularly fine fruits are obtained.
The apricot tree can adapt to dry soils and sunny slopes and, therefore, can develop and give fruits in the gullied lands in the north of Vena del Gesso.
The apricot tree cultivation in Romagna dates back to the late 19th century and, since then, the gentle hills at the foot of the northern slope of Vena del Gesso transform themselves into a spectacular garden in bloom with pink spots, every year between late March and early April. The apricot is a very scented fruit, with a sweet and delicate taste and a pulp with a soft consistency. Harvesting starts in June with the earliest varieties and ends in July-August for the late varieties.
